Abstract - Iesha Bailey

Within this paper, I will be focusing on the genre of pop-rock in the 1960’s. More specifically, I will be concentrating on the melodies of The Beatles and how their music embodied the identity and ideas of social groups that at the time were considered radical. During their most influential period, The Beatles were considered unacceptable. People who listened to them, were thought to be social delinquents. The band was a way for young people to destroy the oppressive moral values that had been established in the previous generation and create their own. The Beatles were a turn of the century band that embodied change. They were a revolution within themselves. Because of this, I will focus on the band in a way that will center around their contributions to identity. I will also used this paper to identify the musical sty-lings of The Beatles.
